Overview

Find out more about our story

Our Family Contact Centres service the regions from Moreton Bay to the Wide Bay/Burnett. Our services are provided for parents or guardians who are in conflict and cannot arrange a mutually agreeable or safe venue for child-parent contact.

Our trained staff ensure smooth changeovers of children between separated parents and supervise all contact visits between children and their non-residential parents or guardians.

Our Family Contact Centres operate under strict guidelines and parents and/or guardians must adhere to contractual obligations before using our services.

Our History

Caring for families since 1995

Our organisation has been caring for children of separated families since 1995 in recognition that separation involving domestic violence and/or high conflict can be traumatic for children. Dedicated and committed volunteers provided a service to parents to ensure children were not repeatedly traumatised in their transition from parent to parent and/or guardian, or during contact with a parent or guardian.

Our organisation was incorporated on 19 January 1996 and through the generosity of the Local Government at the time, the first Harmony House was established in Cotton Tree on the Sunshine Coast in 1998.

Two Family Contact Centres were then established in Caboolture in 2008 and in Hervey Bay in 2009. In 2021, two outreach services were re-established in Gympie and Bundaberg. Bundaberg has a new Children’s Contact Service provider commencing in January 2023. Please call Relationships Australia Bundaberg 1300 364 277 for more information.
